In a new post going viral, the internet has slammed a woman after her reaction to her sister’s homemade anniversary gift for her husband.
Published to Reddit‘s r/AmITheA**hole forum, a woman under the anonymous username u/aitapaintinggift shared her story in order to receive feedback from the “AITA” community. The popular post has over 4,000 upvotes and 2,000 comments.
The Redditor began her story by explaining that her sister, “Zara,” just celebrated her first wedding anniversary with her husband, “Will.” To celebrate, the couple invited the family over for dinner.
“Long story short, after dessert Zara said she had a gift for Will. I thought it was going to be some grand gesture, but then Zara gave him a painting she did of Will and his late dad. Now, Zara does art as a hobby and she’s a very good artist – and I get the sentimental value of it – but I sort of let out a laugh because it seemed like she was half-a**ing giving him a painting instead of a proper gift,” she explained.

She said that when she gets gifts for her boyfriend, they typically “splurge” on one another and then went on to explain that “everyone’s not the same.” When Zara asked why she laughed, the OP (original poster) didn’t want to answer and tried to play it off.
“She kept insisting so I said I thought it was funny she was half-assing her husband’s anniversary gift. She looked hurt, Will said he loves the painting and I was a idiot. We left after that,” she concluded.

Reddit users were quick to comment, enraged at the OP’s comment about the gift.
“[You’re the a**hole] Sounds like a lovely gift, you must be very shallow to consider that ‘half-a**ing,'” wrote u/vip00, receiving the top comment with over 10,000 upvotes.
“[You’re the a**hole] she put more effort into her gift than you ever do. All you do is get out your credit card, and you think you’re better because of it,” u/Deucalion666 slammed the OP.
U/Professional_Froyo34 said, “[You’re the a**hole] I’d take a hand painted sentimental gift over some expensive gift any day. Hope this is rage bait and not some clueless person who thinks price is better vs sentimental.”
