By now you need to be informed that Microsoft will switch off primary authentication in Office 365 later this 12 months and that will strike Exchange Online seriously. It is not a large deal when it will come to mail purchasers or the administrator console (EAC), but automation utilizing PowerShell scripts will be impacted and I lately ran into such an concern.
If you have an Exchange hybrid atmosphere and are using General public Folders, (some of) your Mailboxes are in Trade On-line, but your General public Folders are however on-premises. For this to get the job done adequately, your General public Folder Mailboxes ought to be synchronized employing Azure Advert Hook up, and you ought to operate a PowerShell script (referred to as Sync-ModernMailPublicFolders.ps1) to synchronize the mail-enabled Public Folders with Exchange Online.
This performs fantastic, right until Primary Authentication is turned off and an error is demonstrated:
Or in plain textual content:
Not able to build a distant shell session to Trade On the internet. The error is as follows: “Connecting to distant server outlook.business office365.com unsuccessful with the next mistake message: Obtain is denied
You won’t observe this mistake right away, but at some level you will discover that alterations in Public Folders are not visible in Outlook any more.
The not recommended solution is to re-allow simple authentication, but you can also down load the up to date script from Microsoft that help present day authentication as of Could 2022. You can uncover the up to date Public Folder migration scripts on the Microsoft web-site.
Notice: An additional pitfall below is conditional obtain enforcing MFA, I ran into this as well at a client, resulting in the exact same error concept.
