The internet has slammed a woman for making a new mom cry after she breastfed her child in her own home.

Published to Reddit‘s infamous r/AmITheA**hole forum, a man under the anonymous username u/aitathrowawayaccq shared his story of kicking out his wife’s best friend. The viral post has over 12,000 upvotes and 1,000 comments.

The original poster (OP) began by explaining how his wife is the most “caring” person he knows and “puts most people before her.” They have a 3-month-old son as well.

His wife has a “best friend” referred to as “Sarah,” who he strongly dislikes. Sarah went over to their house recently because it’s been a while since they had last seen each other.

He wrote, “My son was getting hungry so my wife breastfed infront of Sarah. Sarah gasped and said ‘that’s unhygienic to do it infront of people no one wants to see your t**s.’ My wife came in the kitchen basically crying and breastfed our son there.”

When breastfeeding a newborn child, the CDC recommends exclusively feeding for the first six months then continuing it but add in complementary foods for about a year. However, some mothers have trouble breastfeeding or choose not to because of factors including issues with lactation or latching, concerning health issues of the child and the medication the mother is taking, per the CDC.

“I was furious, made my wife cry cause she was breastfeeding in OUR own house. I stormed in there while she was looking through OUR stuff. I said to her get the fuck out of my house, she was saying why, I told her don’t make me do it myself. She looked startled and basically ran out. My wife was still crying so I hugged her,” he continued.

Later that evening, the OP’s wife got a call from Sarah yelling at her saying they were lucky that she wasn’t pressing charges after the OP “threatened” her. He took her wife’s phone and blocked Sarah so she couldn’t keep in touch.

“I don’t feel bad what I said, if a baby is hungry it needs to eat and if that means a mom has to get her boobs out then that is completely fine and normal,” he concluded.

The “AITA” community was quick to defend the OP for his actions.

“[Not the A**hole], that woman is horrible and shouldn’t be in your house at all if she can’t show basic respect to her supposed ‘best friend,'” u/razzledazzle626 received the top comment with over 14,000 upvotes.

“[Not the A**hole]. She sounds entitled. If she had problems with breasts or breastfeeding then she shouldn’t have visited her best friend who has a 3-month-old baby. Good riddance,” u/womanbehindwords exclaimed.

U/TrainingDearest wrote, “[Not the A**hole]. You are absolutely right and hopefully your wife doesn’t plan on keeping this poor excuse for a friend.”

“[Not the A**hole]. I’m glad you stood up for your family and didn’t avoid a confrontation. Your wife should be able to breastfeed anywhere she needs to, especially in her own house,” u/ApocalypiticCarnage said.

“[Not the A**hole],” u/Little-0-Flower explained, “Sounds like this is an abusive friendship and I see from another comment your wife is going low contact. Good! Moms need positive uplifting and supportive friends… Well everybody does, but Mom’s of babies can be especially vulnerable. Get that terrible woman away from your wonderful wife!!!”
